Identity Lifecycle Management Study Notes for IAM Training

Study notes on joiner, mover, leaver processes, authoritative sources, provisioning, deprovisioning, and lifecycle controls.

Identity lifecycle management describes how an organisation manages access from a person’s first day through every role change and eventual departure.

Joiners

New starters need the right accounts and baseline access at the right time. A reliable process begins with an authoritative HR source and clear rules for identity creation, manager assignment, and initial access.

Movers

When someone changes department, location, manager, or employment type, their access must be reviewed. Add required access, remove access no longer justified, and retain an audit trail of the change.

Leavers

Offboarding must remove access quickly and consistently. Training exercises should cover account disablement, privileged access removal, downstream-system confirmation, and exception handling.

Understanding the lifecycle is essential for SailPoint courses, cloud IAM, and cybersecurity operations.
