SailPoint ISC Training Guide for Beginners
A beginner-friendly guide to SailPoint Identity Security Cloud training, core concepts, study priorities, and practical learning steps.
SailPoint Identity Security Cloud (ISC) gives organisations a cloud-based way to govern access, manage identities, and improve audit readiness. For beginners, the fastest path is to learn the business purpose behind the platform before focusing on screens and configuration.
Start with identity governance fundamentals
Study the identity lifecycle first: how people join, move within, and leave an organisation. Then learn least privilege, role-based access control, access requests, approvals, certifications, and separation of duties. These concepts explain why ISC uses identities, sources, accounts, entitlements, and access profiles.
Build hands-on ISC knowledge
A practical SailPoint ISC course should cover source onboarding, account aggregation, identity correlation, entitlement governance, and access-profile design. Learn how to read aggregation results and resolve the data-quality issues that affect approvals and reviews.
Practise realistic scenarios
Use a fictional business application and model access for a new employee, a manager, a contractor, and an administrator. Practise granting access, changing a role, and removing access when the person leaves. This turns study material into an IAM delivery skill.
A beginner implementation lab
Use a non-production source and a small sample population. First, identify an authoritative source such as an HR feed, then document the attributes used to identify a person: employee ID, email, manager, department and employment status. Do not begin by importing every available field. Start with the data needed for correlation and lifecycle decisions.
Next, onboard one target application. Confirm that accounts aggregate successfully, that each account correlates to the right identity, and that unmatched accounts are investigated instead of silently ignored. Give every entitlement a readable display name and a business description before making it requestable.
Finally, create one narrowly scoped access profile. Assign an owner, define who can request it, choose an approver, and test both the grant and removal paths. Record the result in a simple test log: request submitted, approval completed, provisioning result, and evidence location.
Validation checklist
- A new starter appears in the identity population with the expected manager and department.
- A leaver event removes or disables access within the agreed service target.
- A manager can understand the access profile without interpreting technical group names.
- A failed provisioning action creates an actionable task and is not treated as complete.
- A reviewer can see why access exists before making a certification decision.
